About Dr. Charles Gibbs, MD

Dr. Gibbs has over twenty years of experience in both primary and specialty care. He grew up in
Alabama and Tennessee, attending the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he was part
of the Clinical Scholars program and a Class of 1998 officer. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and
Gynecology at the University of Missouri, Kansas City program in 2002, and spent two years in primary
obstetrical practice and primary care in Lee’s Summit before returning to the University of Tennessee to
complete a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Critical Care. Following graduation, he spent 8
years at St. Luke’s Hospital and the University of Missouri Kansas City program as an Assistant Professor
and clinician, caring for high-risk and critically ill pregnancies. He then moved to the University of Kansas
Medical Center to become the Division Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He recently retired from
the University of Kansas and is now working in Urgent and Primary care in Missouri, providing guidance
in women’s care in the Urgent Care setting as well as primary care for underserved patients in Western
Missouri. Dr. Gibbs currently lives in Prairie Village, Kansas with his three children and two dogs.

Patients I like to see:
Chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes, rheumatologic conditions, especially in patients who are
pre-conception, but also outside of pregnancy (and in males)
Maternal mental health, both maintenance and new diagnosis (depression, anxiety, panic disorder,
bipolar, etc)
Genetic and inherited conditions both for preconceptual counseling and post-natal diagnosis
Perimenopausal evaluation including mental health and hormone replacement
General women’s health including screening and sexual dysfunction
Basic infertility (laboratory work-up, medications and injectables)
Conditions related to transgendered patients (e.g. trans-male patients with gynecologic concerns) as
well as hormone therapy in patients undergoing male to female transition
